Bedfordshire is a county in England and forms part of the East of England region.The first recorded use of the name was in 1011 as "Bedanfordscir," meaning "Beda's ford" (river crossing). Bedford is in the centre of Bedfordshire, the county town's history goes back to Saxon times, and was important in the reign of King Alfred before the Danes attacked it in 1010.
