Channel Islands, five small islands off the coast of North West France, the largest of which is Jersey.

The Channel Islands are a magnet for tourists in Summer with their stunning scenery, varied heritage and narrow roads they are especially suited to walking or beach holidays

Channel Islands wildlife is a startling blend of the common and the exotic and no other place in Britain can claim a flora and fauna so rich. A marvellous mix of plants and animals from much further south thrives alongside those from northern Europe making this one of nature's most dramatic crossroads.

There are five main Channel Islands, Jersey , Guernsey , Alderney , Sark and Herm , and each has its own unique blend of wildlife. The other permanently occupied islands are Brecqhou, off Sark, and Jethou, close to Herm, but both are privately owned and impossible to visit without an invitation.

Lihou, the most westerly point in the Channel Islands, is an islet joined to Guernsey by a causeway at low water and is now managed as a nature reserve.

Burhou , a low-lying island just north of Alderney, is also a protected area being home to the largest breeding colony of Puffins in the Islands. 

As well as these main islands the archipelago is scattered with treacherous, half-submerged reefs that combine with the enormous tidal range to make the waters around the Channel Islands a mariner's nightmare.
