Lancashire remains as beautiful today as it ever was, and the River Lune meanders past unspoilt ancient villages and historic churches. There are plenty of waymarked walks, from the 37-mile Lunesdale Walk, perfect for a long weekend, to one-day walks taking in a quiet village, a traditional pub and the best of the Lune Valley scenery.

The Red rose of Lancashire is the traditional symbol for the House of Lancaster, immortalized in the verse "In the battle for England's head/York was white, Lancaster red" (referring to the 15th century War of the Roses), and is the county flower.
